Southface, in partnership with the Virginia Center for Housing Research (VCHR) at Virginia Tech University, releases a report with research findings on the impact of green building certification programs on affordable housing development.

  1. Southface engaged and partnered with more than:

700 affordable housing residents, property managers, developers/builders, housing finance agencies and professionals

  2. Green developments in this study save nearly:

$5000 per year on owner-paid utility costs and spend 12% less on energy (common areas) per square foot when compared to non-green developments.

  3. Green developments are nearly:

5% less expensive on total construction costs per square foot and more than 13% less expensive on soft construction costs than the non-green developments.
