On June 29, 2023, we gathered to celebrate women in sustainability during our annual Summer Solstice event!
During the event, we presented Southface’s Luminary Award to Stephanie Armistead, Sustainability Program Lead for Natural Resources at Chick-fil-A. Stephanie has mightily advanced women’s roles in sustainability during her 25+ year career, co-founding the Southeastern Corporate Sustainability Rankings and working with nonprofits, businesses, and Fortune 500 companies alike to achieve ambitious sustainability goals. She is currently leading a collaborative effort to develop and pilot a new sustainable operations and maintenance program tailored to Chick-fil-A’s quick-service restaurants based on Southface’s BIT Building model. Once the pilot is complete, the program will be implemented at more than 2,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants across the US, adding to the company’s food waste, packaging waste, recycling, water consumption, and energy optimization initiatives.
Thanks to the generosity of our members and sponsors, Summer Solstice tickets supported a day of youth outreach as we welcomed Girl Scouts of Atlanta to learn about our upcoming sustainability upgrades to Girl Scouts of Atlanta’s headquarters through Southface’s GoodUse program, why these upgrades are important for our planet, and how they can aspire to be women in sustainability.
