GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESILIENCE INSTITUTE

GIRI logo square-

In 2015, Southface developed the Green Infrastructure and Resilience Institute (GIRI) to address stormwater management and its associated economic and environmental challenges.

As it stands, impoverished communities are disproportionately

affected when it comes to stormwater management.

A primary goal of the institute is to implement, evaluate, and sustain a workforce development program that will directly support community realization in these neighborhoods, and ultimately, throughout the region. Improving resilience within these communities offers opportunities for economic prosperity and improved health.

Planning & Mapping

GIRI works with government, the private sector, and community organizations to better integrate Green Infrastructure into future development plans. GIRI assists partners to produce an interactive mapping system for the Atlanta region using GIS, highlighting existing projects and vulnerable areas to better inform planning efforts.
