Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP)

Alabama COMcheck

August 28th, 2014 (1:00pm - 5:00pm) - Birmingham, Alabama

COMcheck is a free software program developed by the DOE. It makes it easy for architects, builders, designers, and contractors to determine whether new commercial or high-rise residential buildings, additions, and alterations meet the requirements of the Alabama Energy Code (IECC and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 – 2007). COMcheck also simplifies compliance for building officials, plan checkers, and inspectors by allowing them to quickly determine if a building project meets the code.  This workshop will give attendees an overview of the COMcheck software and an introduction to using it for energy code compliance in Alabama. Designers, contractors and building officials are encouraged to attend to learn how to use COMcheck to document compliance with the commercial energy code and the software’s use in demonstrating envelope and lighting tradeoffs. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop with the COMcheck program pre-loaded to maximize the benefit of interactive training.

Regular Price: $5

Alabama Commercial Energy Code

August 28, 2014 (8:00am - 12:00pm) - Brimingham, Alabama

This workshop focuses on the scope, application, and methods of demonstrating compliance with ASHRAE 90.1-2007 and IECC Chapter 5. Attendees will also learn building science basics, the content of ASHRAE 90.1 Sections 5-11, and strategies for more efficient building envelope, HVAC, and lighting systems. The workshop will also include an overview of COMcheck software, developed by the Department of Energy to demonstrate compliance with the commercial energy code.   The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards for energy performance have been used in the commercial building industry for more than 30 years. ASHRAE 90.1-2007 is also the minimum energy standard accepted by the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification program.
