HOME ENERGY RATINGS
Through its Southface Energy Rated Homes (SERH) program, Southface is one of a handful of providers nationwide authorized to train and certify Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Raters and to verify their ratings. A certified HERS Rater uses in-home diagnostic testing and energy modeling software to create a home energy rating known as a HERS Index. The HERS Index, developed by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), compares the energy performance of a home to benchmarks, providing a clear picture of the home’s energy efficiency.

HERS Raters offer a variety of services to homebuilders, homeowners and real estate professionals, including:
- Certifying that a home meets the requirements of green building programs such as EarthCraft and LEED® for Home
- Qualifying ENERGY STAR® New Homes
- Providing verification for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEMs)
- Providing energy assessments and recommendations on how to increase energy efficiency for existing homes
As part of the HERS rating quality assurance process, verification by an authorized third party is necessary to ensure that the rating process meets RESNET’s standards so that the rating is reliable. One of only a few providers of this service in the Southeast, Southface can perform this verification quickly, efficiently and reliably.
