You can't manage something until you measure it – you won't know if you start saving energy until you start tracking it. Energy and water performance of a building can be tracked through a process called benchmarking. Benchmarking helps you answer questions such as how energy intensive is my office building, or how does my office energy consumption compare to other offices.
There are many benefits to benchmarking, first it provides a method for tracking your building energy use and other relevant metrics. It can also help facilitate meeting resource saving goals or benchmarking requirements. Another benefit is that tracking utility data allows unused, erroneous, or failing meters to be identified and resolved.
Submetering significantly enhances building performance monitoring capabilities by providing a higher resolution to resource use across campus and bringing to light the energy and water consumption of individual buildings and/or systems that would otherwise remain in the dark.
ENERGY STAR® PORTFOLIO MANAGER
Program guide and webinar help building owners identify and track parts of portfolios that are struggling with energy performance, to compare performance from year-to-year and benchmark buildings.
