Finishing the Year with a Great BS + Beer!
Several Southfacers had the honor of spending a full evening with Joe Lstiburek—the godfather of building science and founding principal of Building Science Corporation—on December 10th. The day kicked off with an exclusive tour of the Atlanta Craftsman Passive House, designed and built by LG Squared ARCHI+TECHS and Sawhorse Design-Build, and concluded with the final BS & Beer Atlanta Chapter event of the year at the Construction Resources’ new West Midtown showroom.

BS & Beer Atlanta, the local chapter of a national community focused on building science, is typically hosted on the second Wednesday of each month at Southface. For December’s meeting, 135 participants gathered at Construction Resources’ new West Midtown showroom to hear from the world-renowned “Godfather of Building Science,” Joe Lstiburek. Drawing on a career that spans expert witness testimony, research and development leadership, and prolific writing for ASHRAE Journal and buildingscience.com, Joe delivered an entertaining and engaging presentation that kept the audience thoroughly captivated.

Joe has been a longtime supporter of Southface and fondly recalled a visit from 35 years ago, when he drove to Southface’s former Moreland campus and slept in the parking lot before the building opened for the day. He has since served as a frequent Master Speaker at Southface’s Greenprints Conference. Southface’s Mike Barcik remembers meeting Joe on his second day on the job in 1995, hearing him present, and thinking, “This is what I want to do.”
Thank you, Joe, for decades of inspiration and leadership in our industry. And we have to say thank you for all the hard work and support from our BS+Beer partners. It wouldn’t have been possible without Chris Knight of New South Homes, Steven Sanders-Myers of Brightwater Homes, and Matt Houts of SawHorse.
Thank you all and looking forward to more in 2026!
