1996 A Regional First

The Southface Energy and Environmental Resource Center - the South's first ENERGY STAR-certified building- opens in time for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games with funding support from U.S. Department of Energy, James B. Whitehead Foundation, The Home Depot and Oglethorpe Power.

The Southface Resource Center gets a roof. The building was the first ENERGY STAR-certified building in the South.

The Resource Center was a result of a collaborative partnership between federal, state, and local governments, private corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Visitors to the Resource Center on a tour of the facility.

The Resource Center was originally a demonstration facility, showcasing the state-of-the-art energy- and resource-efficient options available to residents.
