Greenprints 2004 Master Speakers

The Master Speaker Series, a conference favorite, brings four leaders in their respective professions to Greenprints from across the country. This year each speaker's presentation fits into one of four tracks—ULI, USGBC, EarthCraft House and Southface. Gain expertise and join in discussion with Betsy Pettit, Bob Kobet, Steve Kellenberg and Mary Tucker both in their sessions and at the Table Talk luncheon on the afternoon Friday, March 19.

Betsy Pettit, AIA, brings over 25 years of resource- and energy-efficient building experience to Greenprints and EarthCraft House’s residential building track. Currently serving as the project manager for Building Science Corporation’s Building America project, Pettit has incorporated system design into plans for more than 2,000 high performance houses nationwide. Her community and home designs have set standards for resource- efficient housing around the country. At Greenprints, Pettit will show designers and builders how to specify high-performance elements in their designs. A compact disc with CAD drawings of high performance construction details will be available to Greenprints participants in this session.
Bob Kobet, AIA, is the president of Sustainaissance International and K2 Integrated Project Solutions, companies dedicated to sustainable design and development as well as environmental education. In addition to his professional practice, Kobet teaches sustainable design and development at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture. As a member of the USGBC faculty and current chair of the LEED™ for Schools initiative, Kobet will lead an interactive workshop on the LEED for Schools Application Guide. Greenprints attendees will be introduced to the issues surrounding the development of a high performance, “green” school in Kobet’s engaging session. Discussion and contributions from attendees will be used to further develop the LEED for Schools Application Guide.
Steve Kellenberg, with a background in urban design and town planning, brings more than two decades of experience to the Urban Land Institute track. He has positions with the ULI, Kellenberg leads EDAW’s Green Communities Initiative, is Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Southern California School of Public Policy and Planning and has co-authored ULI’s book Great Planned Communities. Kellenberg has master planned several large new communities and redevelopment projects that implement green building practices. Kellenberg’s Greenprints session will use both in-the-ground and on-the-boards projects to demonstrate how to assess gains from investments in sustainability.
Mary Tucker has played a major role in planning and managing energy and environmental programs on local, state and national levels, and brings this extensive expertise to our Policy track. Since 1989, Tucker has been responsible for developing urban environmental policies for the City of San Jose. She manages various environmental and energy programs including urban sustainability, watershed management, water quality and urban climate change. Tucker is currently responsible for coordination of many of the City’s energy activities, including energy supply, renewable energy installations and demand reduction. This master speaker session will provide a forum for Tucker and Atlanta City Council President Cathy Woolard to discuss the challenges and successes they have encountered while transforming their cities into more sustainable communities.
