Dear Reader

After a long, hot, dry summer, fall is finally in the air. We typically think of this season as an ending, but for Southface and some of our partners this fall marks a number of beginnings, several of which are highlighted in this issue of the Southface Journal.

For starters, we introduce a new program from ENERGY STAR®. Long-time Southface friend, Henry Slack of the EPA, a constant crusader for indoor air quality, was the ideal writer to introduce the IAQ Program being rolled out through the ENERGY STAR family.

Over the summer, Atlanta saw corporate powerhouse Delta Air Lines come out of bankruptcy, looking stronger and more focused, and with new programs designed to make their fleet and services more environmentally responsible. Jeff Joslin, Delta Air Lines Captain and Vice Chairman, Delta Airlines Communications Committee (Airline Pilots Assocation International) writes about Delta’s in-flight recycling program, which after an initial pilot program in Atlanta, is expanding across the country this fall.

Finally, new for your reading list, we include reviews of two books focused on climate change issues. Authors Paul Hawken (Blessed Unrest) and Mattys Levy (Why the Wind Blows) have written thought-provokingly about global climate issues and the challenges we face as a consequence.

Yours for a sustainable future,
