Operating an office building can be expensive, especially with energy typically comprising 30 percent of total operating costs. Programs like EPA and DOE’s ENERGY STAR building certification and USGBC’s LEED certification are aiming to alleviate these and other financial and environmental burdens. In addition to direct savings, building occupants are more comfortable and< more productive, saving a bundle in overhead expense. The Atlanta Veterans Administration Regional Office, seen on the cover of this Southface Journal, earned an ENERGY STAR designation.
