Greenbuild 2005: An International Affair

by the U.S. Green Building Council

International Appeal
More than 10,000 attendees are expected to flock to Atlanta in November for Greenbuild, the annual U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Conference and Expo. Greenbuild also serves as a stage for green building associations from around the world. At the 2004 Greenbuild Conference in Portland, over 20 countries were represented, and the Ministry of Construction of the People’s Republic of China announced a significant new green building endeavor. Announcements and presentations were made by both the Mexican Green Building Council and the Indian Green Building Council as well.

Inside Scoop: USGBC Membership & Greenbuild Expo details
While Greenbuild is open to anyone registered for the conference, a few events are open to USGBC members only, providing member attendees a smaller venue conducive to exchanging ideas and increasing participation in the growth of the Council. USGBC members receive a registration discount and may attend USGBC Day on Tuesday prior to the conference. The USGBC Chapter Leadership Forum and Emerging Green Builders Forum allow individuals with different levels of experience to share their knowledge and accomplishments in green building. Also at Greenbuild 2005 is the Annual USGBC Leadership Awards Reception, honoring individuals and companies for their contributions to sustainability.

With over 400 companies displaying green building products and services, Greenbuild features the world’s largest green building exposition. A recent survey showed that 90 percent of Greenbuild attendees had the ability to influence the selection and approval of purchases, making Greenbuild the ideal setting for business development and networking.

As the local host for Greenbuild, Southface and the USGBC-Atlanta Regional Chapter have organized several exciting events to showcase the rich talent of the local green buildingcommunity. The conference tours will feature LEED-certified commercial building and mixed-use traditional neighborhood developments certified under the EarthCraft Communities program. These communities also feature a range of EarthCraft Homes, including single-family detached, townhomes and multifamily.
