As a parent, I appreciate that the families
living in my EarthCraft Houses enjoy healthier indoor environments.
One family’s son realized a remarkable improvement in his
allergy-induced asthma after moving into a Hedgewood EarthCraft
House. Plus, the reduced energy demanded by these homes means
cleaner air for the entire community.
As a volunteer, I am happy to provide my time
and energy to non-profit organizations, such as Southface,
the technical and educational experts behind EarthCraft House.
Southface has a 25-year history of providing education and
expertise to help building professionals, policy makers and
the general public save energy and water to help preserve
our natural resources. As Southface broadens it outreach beyond
the residential arena, I am proud to serve as a Co-Chair for
the Southface Eco Office capital campaign.
Southface’s Energy and Environmental Resource
Center paved the way for EarthCraft House. By demonstrating
available technologies and reasonable building techniques
for energy, water and resource-efficiency, Southface’s current
home served as a catalyst for changing our region’s residential
building market. In like fashion, the Southface Eco Office
will demonstrate state-of-the-shelf technologies that may
be easily adopted by commercial practitioners in constructing
office buildings, retail developments and stand-alone service
centers.
Many of our friends have already expressed an
interest in this project, which will transform the commercial
design, construction and development market. Join me in learning
more about the Southface Eco Office design team in this issue
of the Southface Journal. Think about how you can further
support the Southface mission to promote sustainable homes,
workplaces and communities in our Eco Office campaign.
Yours truly,
Pam Sessions, President, Hedgewood Properties,
Inc. & Board Vice Chair, Southface Energy Institute
