Terri Montague
President and CEO, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc.
Opening Keynote Address

The Greenprints Conference will open with a keynote address by Terri Montague, President of Atlanta BeltLine Inc. Montague’s address is entitled, “Forging a Sustainable Future.”

Montague, a veteran strategic planner and administrator with considerable experience across non-profit, corporate, community and government settings began her tenure in September 2006, as President and CEO of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., the newly established entity charged with coordinating and executing the City of Atlanta’s visionary 25-year BeltLine initiative. Terri brings a wealth of expertise in community revitalization and affordable housing.
“This initiative is already gaining national attention and represents one of the most innovative, transformative investment opportunities for citywide community development taking place anywhere in America,” Ms Montague said.
Ms Montague is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, holding a master of city planning degree with a concentration in housing and community economic development, and a master of science in real estate development. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in economics from the University of Chicago. Ms Montague serves as a member or director for a variety of boards, including the Bank of America national community advisory council; the Trust for Public Land real estate council; the National Law Center for Homelessness & Poverty; and the board of overseers for Southern New Hampshire University’s School of Community Economic Development.

Nancy Clanton, PE, LC, IALD
Session title: Advances in Lighting Design and Technology Thursday, March 22 from 9:45-11:15am
Nancy E. Clanton is founder and President of Clanton & Associates, a lighting design firm specializing in sustainable design. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree (Architectural Engineering, Illumination Emphasis) from the University of Colorado, Boulder and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado. |

Nancy has 28 years of experience in lighting design, including 24 with her current firm. She speaks throughout the nation on topics relating to sustainable and energy efficient design and light pollution and has been an instructor at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Nancy is past chairperson of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Outdoor Environmental Lighting Committee, a past director of the International Association of Lighting Designers and is currently on the board of the International Dark Sky Association. In addition, she serves on the Advisory Committee of Environmental Building News, is a member of the Professional Advisory Board for the Engineering Department at the University of Colorado-Boulder and is a member of the United States Green Building Council. Nancy is a topic editor for the IESNA Lighting Handbook and her committee was responsible for the production of the IESNA Recommended Practices on Outdoor Lighting and is a Fellow of IESNA. She was group leader for the “Greening of the White House” initiative and received the 1999 “Contribution to the Built Environment Award” from the Colorado North Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In 2001 Nancy served as a final editor for the Advanced Lighting Guidelines written by the California Energy Commission. Her firm’s lighting design projects reflect her sustainable philosophy and nine of their projects have been named to the AIA Committee on the Environment Earth Day Top Ten List. Nine projects for which Clanton & Associates designed the lighting are LEED rated and fourteen current projects are registered, certification pending. Nancy is a LEED 2.0 accredited professional. |

Joseph Lstiburek
Session title: Don’t Do Stupid Things - Single Family, Multi-Family & Apartment HVAC Friday, March 23 from 10:45am-12:15pm
Joseph Lstiburek, B.A.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D., P.Eng., is a principal of Building Science Consulting. He is a building scientist who investigates building failures and is internationally recognized as an authority on moisture related building problems and indoor air quality. |
He is a member of ASTM and the past chairman of ASTM E241 - Increasing the Durability of Building Assemblies from Moisture Induced Damage. He is a contributor and reviewer of Chapters 21 and 22 of ASHRAE Fundamentals. Dr. Lstiburek is an ASHRAE fellow and a voting member of ASHRAE Standard 62 - Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. He is also a voting member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 4.3 Ventilation Requirements and Infiltration and ASHRAE Technical Committee 4.4 Building Materials and Building Envelope Performance.
Dr. Lstiburek has appeared on PBS NOVA (“Can buildings make you sick?”) and is the author of numerous books and technical papers on building science, indoor air quality and durability. He is the author of the U.S. DOE Handbook on Moisture Control and a special contributor to the EPA guidance document on Building Air Quality: A Guide for Building Owners and Facility Managers. He is one of the world’s foremost authorities on energy efficient construction techniques and heads one of the four Building America program teams for the U.S. Department of Energy. He is the developer of ADA (the Air Drywall Approach to air barriers) and a building science researcher affiliated with the Centre for Building Science, University of Toronto. He is a former Director of Research of the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada.
Dr. Lstiburek has written numerous books and technical papers on building construction. He is the best selling author of the Builder Guides and has over 50 technical and journal articles to his credit. He has conducted forensic investigations and served as an expert witness on building failures all over the U.S. He is an expert in the areas of rain penetration, air barriers, vapor barriers, air quality, durability and construction technology. He specializes in rain damage and mold and microbial contamination of buildings.
Dr. Lstiburek is an acclaimed public speaker and lecturer in building science. His seminars and presentations on building durability issues are attended by hundreds of architects, engineers, builders, and property managers in the United States each year. He recently concluded a 75-city tour on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) conducting seminars on Preventing and Mitigating Indoor Air Quality Problems.
Dr. Lstiburek received an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, a masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Doctorate in Building Science at the University of Toronto. Dr. Lstiburek has been a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario since 1982.

Kirsten Childs, ASID, LEED AP
Session title: Sustainable Interiors Friday, March 23 from 1:30-3pm
Kirsten Childs graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and Architecture, Scotland, before coming to the US to work with Skidmore Owings Merrill, New York. Prior to becoming a director of Croxton Collaborative Architects (CCA) in 1985, she worked as Director of Interior Design for Richard Meier Associates.

Ms Childs brings singular knowledge to the understanding of projects pursuing design excellence in sustainable design. Recognized nationally for her prescient role in introducing environmental/sustainable considerations to the design and architectural community, she consistently advocates this approach through CCA and her own consulting firm, Kirsten Childs Sustainable Consulting Services. Her insight into the complex requirements of sustainable design has placed her in a unique position to serve her clients, many of whom are pursuing high LEED® certifications under the USGBC’s Green Building Rating System. Her work contributed to earning CCA the USGBC’s prestigious ‘Leadership Award for Education (2005), as well as three National AIA ‘Committee on Environment Top Ten Awards’ for Sustainable Design Excellence.
Ms Childs writes, teaches and lectures widely. She chaired the USGBC’s LEED Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group for developing LEED markets and served on the LEED Steering Committee for over four years, as well as the ASID’s Sustainable Design Council. She continues to participate with the LEED Corporate Interiors Core Committee.
