Dear Reader
In this issue of the Southface Journal we are pleased to report on another successful Green Week in Georgia. The week of March 20 began with a proclamation by Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, and by week’s end over 10,000 people had participated in a Southface educational program. Of course, the success of Green Week is due to strong partnerships between Southface and many public and private organizations. |
Southface was again proud to welcome the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce as a co-host of the Visionary Dinner, our annual fundraiser that features a gourmet sustainable feast presented by Whole Foods and Fetzer Vineyards. A sell-out crowd of over 500 business, government and community leaders celebrated the evening and listened to an inspiring address by Jonathan Lash, former chair of the President’s Council on Sustainability and now president of the World Resources Institute. We are thrilled that Whole Foods and Fetzer have committed to the 2007 Visionary Dinner.
The week continued with the 8th annual Greenprints Sustainable Design Conference and Green Trade Show, co-hosted by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority and Southface. The premier conference sponsor was the Home Depot Foundation. Over 500 attendees learned about sustainable community design, green building and some great products and services at the Green Trade Show. We’re already working on Greenprints 2007 and welcome the opportunity to talk with others about collaboration.
Green Week culminated at the spring Atlanta Home Show where Southface partnered with our EarthCraft House sponsors on an exhibit. Thousands of consumers visited the exhibit to learn about practical ways to renovate or build homes that are healthy, save money, and conserve energy, water and other natural resources.
If you were able to join us for Green Week, we thank you for your support. And remember, you’re always welcome at Southface and we hope to see you at our upcoming membership event on June 15th, our annual Summer Solstice Celebration.
Yours for a sustainable energy future,
Dennis Creech Executive Director
