Commercial Green Building Services Fellow – A One Year Fellowship

Organizational Overview:
Southface, a nonprofit environmental organization that promotes sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance seeks a Fellow for the one-year Fellowship program with the Commercial Green Building Services team.

Southface’s Commercial Green Building Services team engages and educates building owners and commercial design and construction teams on sustainable principles and strategies in order that these concepts become standard practice. Through the Commercial Green Building Services team, Southface offers an array of services including:

Training and consulting on environmentally responsible building design and  construction
Eco-charrette facilitation
Cost-benefit analysis of sustainable design strategies
LEED™ process guidance and administration, including scheduling, task management, documentation and submittal preparation
Energy performance modeling, building optimization and ENERGY STAR analysis
Event planning and program development for sustainable conferences, workshops and special events
Development of educational and outreach materials on ways to save energy, water and natural resources
Strategies for incorporating sustainability throughout an organization

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work for a one year term on existing and newly funded projects with CGBS such as:
Assist with cost-benefit analysis of sustainable design strategies
Assist with LEED project administration
Participation in development of sustainability programs
Assist with training and education on green building

Additionally, the CGBS Fellow will partner with other Southface project managers to provide the services offered by the organization.  Many Southface projects, whether an eco-charrette, the chartering of a design team, or a sustainability training, require both technical skills and the ability to plan and execute events. 

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required.  Work experience in a related field is a plus
Preferred degree areas: Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Land Use Planning
General knowledge, understanding and willingness to learn about green building design and construction, as well as green building public policy
Effective and thorough written and oral communication skills     
Ability to independently and effectively self motivate and follow through on project work
Productively set priorities on complex projects
Display professional demeanor and appearance - will be working with high ranking professionals and organizations from around the country
Exemplary teamwork abilities - accountability and contributions to the team is a must
Computer proficiency appropriate to the scope of projects.  Word processing, spreadsheet applications, internet, database and presentation software required.  CAD, energy modeling, daylight modeling a plus.
Experience conducting and reporting research as well as capturing and reporting workshop outcomes using a variety of methods
Ability to coordinate multiple- complex tasks with exemplary time management skills
   
Physical Requirements
Normal office setting on most days
Occasional travel to conferences, meetings, and trainings
Occasional visits to construction job sites
   

Supervisory Responsibilities

  Potentially supervise consultants, volunteers and interns
   

Hours of Work:

 

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday; 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with some flexible options, depending on organizational work load.  Occasional weekend or evening hours required.

   

Compensation:

 

Salary is $24,000 and includes excellent benefits.
