and the public. Southface prides itself on impartiality
and dedication to promoting ideas, affording it a unique
opportunity
to reach thousands of people each year who respect and
honor its unbiased advice and counsel. Southface reaches
over 40,000
people each year directly, and thousands more through regular
media outreach. The Southface Journal of Sustainable Building
provides practical, objective information to a circulation

Southface formed a partnership with the U.S. Department
of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other
leaders
in energy and environmental fields to construct a state-of-the-art
demonstration facility. The Southface Energy and Environmental
Resource Center opened to the public during the 1996 Summer
Olympics, and serves as a training center for building
professionals, energy and environmental leaders, the media
and the public.
Southface provides technical assistance to government agencies,
non-profit organizations, utilities and the private sector
on sustainable design and construction, energy policy and
technology transfer issues. Southface regularly conducts
educational programs for audiences ranging from energy
and building professionals to school-age children. One of
Southface's
most successful outreach programs to homeowners and builders
is our Home Energy Clinics. This type of practical, objective
information is essential to creating lasting markets for
energy efficiency and other sustainable technologies.
Southface is educating tomorrow's leaders through its internship
and fellowship programs. Young people from around the world
with a variety of talents and interests have and continue
to join the staff and provide meaningful and challenging
work in a fast-paced organizational environment. Over 120
people have complete internships at Southface.
2003 marked the organization's 25th year. Begun as the
volunteer-based Georgia Solar Energy Coalition, the Southface
mission has
grown to include resource efficiency, indoor air quality,
alternative transportation, land use planning, water conservation
and more. Our staff of over 35 is housed at our Energy
and Environmental Resource Center in Atlanta, Georgia, with
a branch office in Boone, North Carolina.
