EPIC Metals Corporation Invests in a Sustainable Future – Accepts Naming Opportunity at Southface Eco Office
Atlanta, GA - November 9, 2005
When the Southface Eco Office opens its doors as a one-of-a-kind sustainable office, education and event space, guests will view exciting new metal decking products, some made of nearly 100 percent recycled steel. The EPIC Roof Deck Ceiling System will be visible in the building’s EPIC Metals Executive Suite. Southface, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable homes, workplaces and communities, broke ground on the Eco Office in September with completion scheduled for mid-2006. The three-story structure is approximately 10,000 square feet and will serve as a model of environmentally responsible commercial construction to demonstrate that a green commercial building creates a healthy and productive workplace with reduced operating costs.
EPIC Metals’ products, featured throughout the Southface Eco Office project, provide architects and engineers with exposed, long-span roof and floor deck ceiling systems that address architectural aesthetics, acoustics, and sustainability. “We have been involved in high profile, sustainable projects around the country,” says EPIC Metals Vice President, David Landis. “What makes the Eco Office different is its educational component. Southface will use the Eco Office to educate design and construction professionals on a variety of EPIC’s innovative, environmentally responsible products.”
The Eco office will showcase innovative ideas for saving energy and water, reducing waste, re-using and recycling materials, and maintaining a healthy indoor environment. “When completed, the Eco Office will be one of the greenest commercial buildings in the world,” said Dennis Creech, Executive Director of Southface. One unique feature of the Eco Office will be the incorporation of EPIC Metals’ Roof Deck Ceiling Systems with energy saving Solatube Skylights. This adds no expense of additional structural framing, and contributes to daylighting techniques.
Off-the-shelf products and technologies like these will give Southface a demonstration facility and a stellar teaching tool. “We will be able to increase by 50 percent our ability to educate the commercial building industry in ‘green building’ techniques,” Creech continued. The Eco Office will provide classroom and event space as well as offices for Southface and the Urban Land Institute, Atlanta District Council. On track for LEED Platinum Certification, the building will enhance the opportunities available on the Southface Atlanta campus to demonstrate environmentally sound design and construction principles.
EPIC Metals joins a growing list of companies and individuals committed to supporting Southface’s mission. In addition to the EPIC Metals Executive Suite, the Eco Office includes The Home Depot Foundation Training Center and the Melaver Eco Nexus.
