SOUTHFACE INTRODUCES LEED TRACK TO GREENPRINTS CONFERENCE
Atlanta - January 3, 2003
Southface Energy Institute prepares its new facility, incorporating the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED standards while guiding others to do the same. The Southface Green Design Charrette, returns to the Greenprints Conference in 2003, again bringing together the U.S. Department of Energy, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Greenprints attendees to help design Southface's new commercial facility. Ideas generated during the February 14 charrette, a planning and architectural design meeting, will be incorporated into the design of a commercial addition to the Southface Energy and Environmental Resource Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Greenprints Conference educational tracks on February 13 and 14 include a LEED-specific sessions.
Southface is collaborating with the U.S. Green Building Council to answer the high demand for LEED educators by organizing a track dedicated to auditioning new faculty and programs. The six LEED sessions and their presenters at Greenprints 2003 are considered potential training modules and faculty for the USGBC Introductory LEED Training Workshops nationwide. Topics for the LEED track include LEED issues for specific building types, market sectors, professional disciplines, and regions as well as specific topics within LEED categories and credit areas. USGBC representatives and Greenprints attendees will evaluate the presentations for final selection of LEED faculty and training modules.
"LEED is changing the way we design and operate buildings. The addition of new faculty members and modules at Greenprints 2003 will help meet market demand and speed the transformation toward better building practices," says Christine Ervin, USGBC President and CEO. (more) Two LEED-focused workshops will be held during Greenprints "green week," which attracts about 1,200 people annually from across the building and environmental community. On February 11, a workshop designed to foster better understanding of energy modeling will simplify the process for those new to LEED. Energy Modeling, a method for optimizing green building design, is required for certifying a building to LEED standards.
Then on February 12, a full-day workshop teaches more advanced LEED professionals the skills needed to prepare for the LEED accreditation exam and how to leverage LEED in the workplace. Registration for the advanced program at www.leedbuilding.org.
The sixth annual Greenprints Conference and Tradeshow, hosted by Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority and Southface, will return to the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta.
Greenprints also features a comprehensive agenda, a tradeshow and renowned visionary speakers including Amy Vickers, Nigel Howard, Malcome Lewis, Alex Wilson, Dan Burden and Judith Heerwagen, Katherine Ellison, Paris Glendening and Steven Strong . In addition to the new USGBC-sponsored LEED sessions, other Greenprints 2003 tracks and workshops include:
