Curious about the energy usage of historic homes? Just how does a building with historical significance, but compromised structural integrity, thrive in the modern technological age? Bourke Reeve presented on energy efficiency in historic structures at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia on November 11. This talk was part of Day of Green, a day-long event on healthy, sustainable design presented by Advocates for Children.

Healthy, Sustainable Design was a day of continuing education for architects, interior designers, building contractors and students, culminating in a tour of the Magnolia Designer Show House.

Bourke is the program manager for the EarthCraft Sustainable Preservation program, a regional green building certification program created specifically for historic buildings. The EarthCraft program is a partnership between the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface. EarthCraft Sustainable Preservation (ECSP) is a regional green building certification program created specifically for historic buildings. ECSP offers third-party certification for environmentally responsible design and construction practices for historic buildings in the Southeast. The program is designed to evaluate and highlight what is inherently sustainable about historic buildings while providing guidance on appropriate alterations to make them more energy and water efficient.
