Commercial Solar Thermal Successes

Southface – Atlanta, GA
American Energy Technologies solar water heater generates 50 gallons of hot water daily
a 20 square foot glazed collector absorbs sunlight to heat glycol a antifreeze solution
solar heat transfers from the antifreeze solution to the potable water in the hot water tank via internal copper pipes
more than 50 percent of the office’s hot water needs are met with the solar system

Building 850, US Navy – Port Hueneme, CA
renovations to this 17,000 square foot office building began in 1996
currently, the building utilizes a 30kW PV system on its rooftop in addition to numerous solar thermal collectors
solar water heating offsets the need for conventional water heating, helping the building to realize a 55 percent reduction in energy use
