The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®  training presents an overview of the systems approach to home assessments and improvements. It also instructs contractors on HPwES program requirements. All contractors participating in the Georgia Power and Southface Home Performance with ENERGY STAR programs are required to complete this one-day training.

Contractors who participate in the Georgia Power and Southface Home Performance with ENERGY STAR programs must meet the following three requirements:

1. Complete the one-day Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training.

2. Possess a Building Analyst Professional certification from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Training and certification can be obtained through Southface.

3. Complete three home performance assessments mentored by Southface staff.

Number of Attendees:

Class size is limited to 16 participants

Class Dates and Times:

Dates and times vary; please see the Southface calendar for additional information.

Training Includes:

  • Eight hours of classroom training by certified BPI Building Analysts in a green building with daylighting
  • Continental breakfast and lunch
  • Certificate of Attendance

Student Requirements:

There is no prerequisite for attending the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training. We do recommend that students familiarize themselves with basic construction terminology and review information provided on Georgia Power’s website before attending training.

Mentoring Period:

Contractors participating in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR programs are required to perform their first three home assessments with assistance from a Southface staff member. The mentoring period is useful for the contractor both to gauge how the program can fit into his/her existing business and to gain additional hands-on experience in the field assessing houses.

Southface can provide necessary diagnostic equipment for mentored visits. Southface will continue to provide technical assistance to contractors we train, and will also provide quality assurance on behalf of the Building Performance Institute for contractors who participate in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR programs.
