EarthCraft trainings, presented in conjunction with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, provide builders, renovators, architects, project managers and real estate professionals with the information they need to understand and implement the EarthCraft family of programs.

Trainings last only one day or less, so participants can receive high quality instruction that fits within the scheduling needs of busy professionals, and all of the courses are approved for continuing education credits.

EarthCraft Builder Training

Builder trainings provide a comprehensive overview of best practices for sustainable construction and design and explore the ways the EarthCraft program can help you get started in the green building sector. Learn cost-effective ways to improve the energy efficiency, indoor air quality, comfort and durability of homes, enhancing overall client appeal.

Learn:

After successful completion of this course, the participant will have the knowledge and skills to successfully build, certify and market EarthCraft homes.

This training will discuss:

  • Building science basics
  • EarthCraft program fundamentals
  • The EarthCraft certification process
  • Strategies for marketing EarthCraft projects
  • Green building incentive programs

Earn:

  • CEUs: The EarthCraft Builder training qualifies attendees for continuing education credit from the following organizations: AIA – 7 LU, CSI – .8 CEU’s, GBCI – 8 hours, The Housing Institute CPHB program – 6 hours, BPI – 7 hours. The course is also approved under the rules of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors for 6 continuing education hours.
  • Certifications: Upon completion of the course, qualifying builders will be prepared and eligible to sit for a 50-question EarthCraft Builder exam, register and join the EarthCraft House program, and begin the process of certifying his/her first EarthCraft House.

EarthCraft Renovation Breakfast & Learn

Discover how the EarthCraft Renovation program process will add value and provide risk management to your next project, and what rebates are available to you and the homeowner. Presented the same day as our EarthCraft Multifamily Lunch & Learn- enjoy one or both introductions to the EarthCraft program and discover what it can do for you. Information about construction materials and services provided by EarthCraft sponsors will offer you one-on-one interaction with green industry service providers. This course is approved for AIA & GBCI continuing education credits and is the final step in becoming a certified EarthCraft Renovator after taking the EarthCraft Builder training.

EarthCraft Light Commercial Building Strategies

EarthCraft Light Commercial Building Strategies course provides architects, contractors and project managers with the information they need to implement the EarthCraft Light Commercial green building certification program. Participants will gain an understanding of the program’s fundamental requirements, commercial energy code, and key elements of building science and commercial building envelop testing. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of how to design and construct energy, water and resource efficient light commercial buildings.

Learn:

After successful completion of this course, participants will be able to . . .

  • Recognize the impacts of green building/development on resources and the economy, as well as financial benefits to building owners;
  • Appreciate building science principles such as heat, air, and moisture transfer and how they are fundamentally related to creating high performance buildings;
  • Accurately use the EarthCraft Light Commercial worksheet and building guidelines to determine building specific strategies for creating high performance light commercial structures;
  • Understand the EarthCraft Light Commercial Program implementation process design review, pre-drywall and final inspection processes, testing and required documentation;

Designing and Installing High-Performance HVAC Systems the EarthCraft Way

This training will focus is on high-performance HVAC systems using the EarthCraft program as a roadmap.

Learn:

  • How to reduce call-backs, comfort complaints and unhappy customers, minimize risk and improve your company’s reputation;
  • Coverage of proper Manual J, S and D calculations, ENERGY STAR v3 standards as well as ASHRAE 62.2 ventilation requirements;
  • Review effective Manual J, S and D calculations, ENERGY STAR v3 standards as well as ASHRAE 62.2 ventilation requirements;
  • Current Georgia Energy Codes and how they impact the HVAC trades;
  • HVAC design and installation best practices for building to code or any above-code standard;
  • How to tell from builder plans, specs and construction practices if your HVAC systems will perform the way you want them to;
  • Easy techniques for passing blower door and duct blower testing;
  • How to achieve ASHRAE 62.2 while improving customer comfort and building durability.

Earn:

  • Designing and Installing High-Performance HVAC Systems the EarthCraft Way is approved under the rules of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Conditioned Air Contractors, Residential and General Contractors for 6 continuing education hours.
  • In addition, this training is pre-approved for 4 BPI credits, 8 hours from the AL HVAC Board-and 8 NATE credits.

EarthCraft Real Estate Professional Training

With the demand for energy efficient, healthy and durable homes increasing- explore how to market yourself as an EarthCraft Real Estate Professional at this lunch and learn. This session will include building science basics, green building benefits, techniques and strategies for identifying demographics of green home buyers and how to market green buildings. Discover information on policy and mortgage incentives that you can provide to your clients. Thanks to the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Associate (the provider of this course), earn 3 hours of continuing education credit from the GA Real Estate Commission while you enjoy an lunch with professionals in the green building industry.

EarthCraft Technical Advisor Boot Camp

This 3-day intensive training will cover the EarthCraft design review process, pre-drywall inspections, and final inspections to prepare you for an EarthCraft Technical Advisorship. Upon completion of the 3-day training, you will be eligible to take the EarthCraft Technical Advisor – Field Exams on the 4th day.

Candidates must be members of Southface Energy Rated Homes or certified HERS raters to attend this course. Candidates must also have completed the EarthCraft Builder Training and passed the EarthCraft Builder written exam prior to attending the course. Southface’s full-time EarthCraft staff will be leading the training.
