EarthCraft trainings, presented in conjunction with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, provide builders, renovators, architects, project managers and real estate professionals with the information they need to understand and implement the EarthCraft family of programs. Trainings last only one day, so participants can receive high quality instruction that fits within the scheduling needs of busy professionals, and all of the courses are approved for continuing education credits..

Class size is limited to a maximum of 30 participants.

EarthCraft Builder Training

Builder Trainings provide a comprehensive overview of best practices for sustainable construction and design and explore the ways the EarthCraft program can help you get started in the green building sector. Learn cost-effective ways to improve the energy efficiency, indoor air quality, comfort and durability of homes, enhancing overall client appeal.

Learn:

After successful completion of this course, the participant will have the knowledge and skills to successfully build, certify and market EarthCraft homes.

This training will discuss:

  • Building science basics
  • EarthCraft program fundamentals
  • The EarthCraft certification process
  • Strategies for marketing EarthCraft projects
  • Green building incentive programs

Earn:

  • CEUs: The EarthCraft Builder training qualifies attendees for continuing education credit from the following organizations: AIA – 7 LU, CSI – .8 CEU’s, GBCI – 8 hours, The Housing Institute CPHB program – 6 hours, BPI – 7 hours. The course is also approved under the rules of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors for 6 continuing education hours.
  • Certifications: Upon completion of the course, qualifying builders will be prepared and eligible to sit for a 50-question EarthCraft Builder exam, register and join the EarthCraft House program, and begin the process of certifying his/her first EarthCraft House.

Introducing EarthCraft Light Commercial Lunch & Learn

This lunch and learn provides architects, builders, renovators and project managers with the information they need to understand the NEW EarthCraft Light Commercial program. Participants will gain an understanding of the programs basic requirements, energy code requirements and levels of certification. Participants receive high-quality instruction that fits conveniently around lunch time schedules. The course is approved for AIA continuing education credits.

Learn:

After successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to promote and market the benefits of the EarthCraft Light Commercial Program to potential clients by discussing the programs benefits, costs and processes.

EarthCraft Real Estate Professional Training

Real Estate Professional Trainings teach participants the fundamentals of the EarthCraft program, providing expert guidance on strategies for presenting and marketing sustainably built homes to sales prospects.

This three-and-a-half-hour class will discuss:

  • Building science basics
  • Green building benefits
  • Unique features of an EarthCraft House
  • Techniques for identifying categories and demographics of green home buyers
  • Strategies for marketing green buildings
  • Information on policy and mortgage incentives for purchasing energy-efficient buildings.

The EarthCraft Real Estate Professional training qualifies attendees for continuing education from the following organization: Georgia Real Estate Commission – 3 hours

Thanks to the Atlanta Home Builders Association (the provider of this course), the EarthCraft Real Estate Professional training qualifies attendees for 3 hours of continuing education from the Georgia Real Estate Commission.

EarthCraft Renovation Training

In this seven-and-a-half-hour course, renovators, contractors, architects and project managers learn how to apply high-performance construction techniques to renovation and remodeling projects.
The course will include:

  • Methods for improving the energy efficiency, indoor air quality and durability of existing buildings
  • An overview of EarthCraft marketing, administration and program protocol
  • Information about construction materials and services provided by EarthCraft sponsors

Learn:

After attending this course, qualifying home remodelers will have the knowledge and skills to successfully renovate, certify and market EarthCraft-renovated homes.

Earn:

  • CEUs: The EarthCraft Renovation training qualifies attendees for continuing education credit from the following organizations: AIA – 7 LU, BPI – 7 hours.  The course is also approved under the rules of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors for 6 continuing education hours.

Designing and Installing High-Performance HVAC Systems the EarthCraft Way

Designing and Installing High-Performance HVAC Systems the EarthCraft Way will focus is on high-performance HVAC systems using the EarthCraft program as a roadmap.

This training will include:

  • New energy codes allow HVAC contractors to design a “right-sized” system with less worry about having to upsize to make up for improper air sealing, improper insulation installation and poor windows;
  • Coverage of proper Manual J, S and D calculations, ENERGY STAR v3 standards as well as ASHRAE 62.2 ventilation requirements;
  • Review of current Georgia Energy Codes and how they impact the HVAC trades;
  • Review of HVAC design and installation Best Practices which are excellent guidelines when building to code or any above-code standard;
  • Properly designed and installed systems will minimize the risk of call-backs, comfort complaints and unhappy customers;
  • Learn more about how to tell from builder plans, specs and construction practices if your HVAC systems will perform the way you want them to;
  • Blower door and duct blower testing: passing test scores are not difficult if you know the building science basics;
  • Following above-code guidelines will help you insure customer comfort satisfaction and repeat business with less risk;
  • Ventilation overview and Best Practice methods to achieve ASHRAE 62.2 without impacting customer comfort.

Designing and Installing High-Performance HVAC Systems the EarthCraft Way is approved under the rules of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Conditioned Air Contractors, Residential and General Contractors for 6 continuing education hours. In addition, it is currently submitted for continuing education approval from North American Technician Excellence (NATE).

EarthCraft Technical Advisor Boot Camp

This 3-day intensive training will cover the EarthCraft design review process, pre-drywall inspections, and final inspections to prepare you for an EarthCraft Technical Advisorship. Upon completion of the 3-day training, you will be eligible to take the EarthCraft Technical Advisor – Field Exams on the 4th day.

Candidates must be members of Southface Energy Rated Homes or certified HERS raters to attend this course. Candidates must also have completed the EarthCraft Builder Training and passed the EarthCraft Builder written exam prior to attending the course. Southface’s full-time EarthCraft staff will be leading the training.
