WORKSHOP: High Performance Building - Design

The full-day High Performance Building: Design workshop focuses on strategies for new building design and major energy upgrades to existing facilities, including an overview of the major market drivers for energy efficiency like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), ENERGY STAR, the 2030 Climate Challenge and the ASHRAE Energy Design Guides.

The workshop will cover high-performance design strategies such as building siting, daylighting and HVAC design. In addition, it will include a discussion on energy modeling, and challenges and incentives for high-performance building.

The High Performance Building: Design Workshop is designed to be taken in conjunction with the High Performance Building: Commissioning, Operations & Maintenance Workshop. Both workshops are full-day trainings and are offered together on successive days.

The following Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this training: AIA, GBCI, CSI, ICC and the Alabama State Board of HVAC Contractors.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This workshop is ideally suited to the needs of design and construction professionals, but will also be of interest to product manufacturers and vendors, real estate professionals, the commercial building finance industry and building code officials.

Cost is $50 per workshop or $75 for both. Registration is available online or by mail. If you register by mail, please make you check payable to Southface and send it to Southface - ADECA, 241 Pine Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. Please note the city, date and class you are registering for, as well as your name and email address.

WORKSHOP: High Performance Building - Operations & Maintenance

Even buildings with exceptional energy design can perform poorly if their systems are not properly operated and maintained. This full-day workshop will teach you about building operations; identifying factors that can adversely affect building performance; diagnosing and addressing sub-optimal building performance; and tracking and improving building energy results on an ongoing basis.

Learn about implementing simple low-cost and no-cost measures, commissioning and retro-commissioning, and making cost-effective energy upgrades to reduce energy consumption and save money. Other topics covered include base-lining and evaluating energy performance, maintenance strategies, occupant education and interpreting utility data.

The High Performance Building: Commissioning, Operations & Maintenance Workshop is designed to be taken in conjunction with the High Performance Building: Design Workshop. Both workshops are full-day trainings and are offered together on successive days.

The following Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this training: AIA, GBCI, CSI, ICC and the Alabama State Board of HVAC Contractors.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This workshop targets design and construction professionals, as well as professionals who work in the areas of building commissioning, energy monitoring, facility management or building operations and maintenance.

WORKSHOP: Residential Energy Code

Stay ahead of the curve and save energy by learning the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), produced by the International Code Council.

The Residential Energy Code Workshop consists of both a three-hour, in-class training and a three-hour, in-field training, including a diagnostic testing demonstration. Attendees will learn basic building science and how it informs the requirements of the IECC; the basic structure of the 2006 IECC; terminology; which buildings are required to comply with the code; compliance pathways builders can use to meet the requirements in the 2006 IECC; mandatory requirements of the energy code; and major changes in the 2009 IECC.

The energy code workshops will also emphasize connections between the 2006 and 2009 IECC and discuss market drivers like the LEED green building program, ENERGY STAR, Home Energy Ratings, Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification and the 2030 Climate Challenge.

The following Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this training: AIA, GBCI, BPI, CSI, ICC and the Alabama State Board of HVAC Contractors.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This training is intended for building code officials, policymakers, building product manufacturers and vendors, design and construction professionals, affordable housing advocates and practitioners, and members of the media which and interest in the building industry.

The Residential Classroom Workshop will be offered in a traditional classroom setting. The Residential In-Field Workshop will be held at a construction site, and it will focus on “field inspection best practices” and compliance issues surrounding both the 2006 and 2009 IECC. The classroom session is offered in the morning and the in-field session in the afternoon. The in-field session is targeted toward code officials but is open to all.

The workshop cost is $50. Registration is available online or by mail. If you register by mail, please make you check payable to Southface and send it to Southface - ADECA, 241 Pine Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. Please note the city, date and class you are registering for, as well as your name and email address.

WORKSHOP: Commercial Energy Code

Reduce operating costs, add value to construction projects and reduce your environmental impact by constructing energy-efficient buildings. Learn how to implement ASHRAE 90.1-2007, the most current ASHRAE standard and the minimum energy standard accepted by the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification program.

This full-day workshop focuses on the scope, application and methods of demonstrating compliance with ASHRAE 90.1-2007. Attendees will also learn building science basics, the content of ASHRAE Chapters 5-11 and strategies for more efficient building envelope, HVAC and lighting systems. In addition, the workshop will include an overview of COMcheck software used to demonstrate compliance with ASHRAE standards.

Note: The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards for energy performance have been used in the commercial building industry for more than 30 years. ASHRAE 90.1-2007 is this organization’s most stringent set of energy requirements to date.

The following Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this training: AIA, GBCI, CSI, ICC and the Alabama State Board of HVAC Contractors.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This workshop is intended for design and construction professionals, professional and trade association members, affordable housing advocates and practitioners, building product manufacturers, distributors and vendors, building code officials and policymakers.

The workshop cost is $50. Registration is available online or by mail. If you register by mail, please make you check payable to Southface and send it to Southface - ADECA, 241 Pine Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. Please note the city, date and class you are registering for, as well as your name and email address.
