Green Roofs Outreach in the Southeast

Southface partnered with Green Roofs for Healthy Cities in 2006 to encourage market development and awareness of green infrastructure technologies in the Southeast. For three years, Southface has promoted the integration of green roofs and has served as a regional resource.

Southface, through market development, policy initiatives and research, has been able to impact the understanding and uptake of green roofs and the infrastructure technologies required to build green roofs across the the Southeast. Highlights of the partnership include:

• Development of a local steering committee to support green roof initiatives;
• Development of Green Roofs 101 and 201 training courses;
• Execution of a market assessment for green roofs;
• Support of the local steering committee, green roof tours and marketing for the 7th Annual International Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities Conference, Awards and Trade Show that was held in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 3-5, 2009;
• Inclusion of a Green Roof Professional in the Atlanta Green Building Ordinance;
• Promotion of Green Infrastructure as a best practice on the Sustainable Cities Institute website; Development of a Green Roof Infrastructure Workshop curriculum;
• Facilitation of two Green Roof Infrastructure Workshops in the Southeast;
• Promotion of green roof technology throughout the Southeast.
