Southface Energy Institute, a nonprofit environmental organization that promotes sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance, seeks applications for a Residential Green Building Services (RGBS) Engineer. Responsibilities:

The RGBS Engineer will perform a variety of functions within the programs at Southface and have responsibility for overseeing the technical components of the residential programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing residential programs to ensure program criteria provide best-practice building science guidance to builders and stakeholders, programs examples include EarthCraft House, LEED for Homes, Weatherization, Building America, etc. 
  • Integrating new technologies, research and products into the residential programs
  • Evaluating new and existing building products for sustainability criteria and performance  
  • Performing energy modeling analysis, preparing related reports and other client deliverables documenting the results of the analysis
  • Conducting complex home assessments providing quality assurance to programs and clients
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring and support to team members
  • Assisting with various tasks supporting the Residential Green Building Services Team 

 

Qualifications:

Southface seeks applicants with the following qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in complex energy modeling using eQuest or similar software 
  • Experience with residential auditing and monitoring 
  • Knowledge of renewable energy, HVAC, lighting, insulation, residential appliances and other, related energy-consuming equipment 
  • Excellent team building skills and ability to work independently 
  • Computer literacy with MS Office, experience with online learning a plus
  • Be willing to work in a dynamic setting, balancing time spent in the field with time spent in the office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license with no major violations

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of interns and staff aiding the program’s scope of work.

 

Hours of Work:

Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30AM-5:30PM generally, with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.  Frequent travel may be required.

Based on experience
